Introduction
Welcome to my family pages. The purpose of this page is to create a link between my personal family files and the better known Gente Di Mare Genealogy Forum. The search thus far has not been an easy one. My father is the youngest of six children and the gap between his siblings and himself span over the course of 20 years. This is not a uncommon scenario in an Italian family as the women usually married quite young and had children well into their 40's. The families were quite large, with a child being born almost every two years. Many children did not survive to adulthood. Epidemic, poverty and the lack of proper medical care were only a few reasons which made it especially difficult for many infants or children to survive. Those that did survive endured other hardships. Children as young as 7 or 8 years old were already out working and once in their teenage years, many male children set off on their own. They scattered to different towns and villages. Many left for the Americas.
After nearly two years of intense researching, I feel I have enough information to be able to paint a picture of my family's past. In the process, I have also managed to record several other persons that happen to carry the same surnames. It is definitely time to put these records on line and hopefully, they will help some other person with their own research. Read more....
